TRIMDON UNITED NEWSLETTER SEVENTEEN
February 3rd 2008

Trimdon U13 v Brompton U13 away

Last week we easily expected to trounce Darlington TSC and our confidence came back to haunt us with them beating us 5-2. This week we play bottom of the league Brompton – even though we turn up with a sorely depleted team – down to 11 men and no subs, this can’t happen again – after all we beat them 9 – 0 in the home tie.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh dear!!!!

Trimdon start briskly right from kick off with a shot from Luke Walton just missing followed by a break on the other side – Casper Summerbell feeding Sam Noble who also just misses with a decent header. Half a dozen Trimdon shots follow from Sam, Luke and Casper but no goals.

5 minutes in and Brompton have their first attack – a good run down the left side and it is crossed in at height – against all odds it drops in the Trimdon goal – 1 nil to Brompton – Its like a lottery win for Brompton and just about as likely or so we thought. More shots on goal from Trimdon – Louie, Sam and Luke W all contributing – the pressure is maintained and on 10 minutes great work from Luke W puts Casper in on goal and he scores – 1 all. Good work on the left side from Danny Wilson puts Tom Lawson on a run which ends with another effort from Luke W going wide. After 15 minutes and Trimdon in command of the game (just), surely it just a matter of time before we knock a few goals in. Still more shots from the Trimdon team with Ryan Willis having 2 good efforts sail by the post and over the bar. 25 minutes in Brompton get a free kick 30 yards out which, wind assisted, they drive at the Trimdon keeper but Jack Cairns the useful looking keeper collects confidently. Brompton’s confidence seems to be picking up and they attack well on their right wing but little Danny is standing strong and clearing well. Another break from Brompton when they run into a big hole on the Trimdon right mid field – they press forward and score a second goal on 26 minutes. The last 10 minutes of the half is very poor, a scrappy performance from Trimdon and its 2-1 to Brompton after 35 minutes.

Brompton kick off the second half and push forward, winning a corner from which they score and go 3-1 up.

We aren’t at our best but this is a much improved Brompton team from our last meeting – they have a couple of excellent lads in their left winger and their keeper and are making a game of it this time. The next 20 minutes are dour football to watch and we just can’t force through to score and numerous breaks and shots come to nothing. 15 minutes to go and Trimdon seem to flick a switch and turn up the heat on Brompton with constant attacks winning 10 or so corners from which we pile on the pressure, hitting the bar, hitting the post, cleared off the line – relentless stuff for the Brompton keeper to defend. On 25 minutes it pays off with another excellent corner from Sam which Jack Fannan buries into the net 3-2. No let up though for the hapless Brompton defence as the pressure increases and in the final minute another excellent corner from Sam flies into the net to square the match. Not sure if it touched anyone on the way in so Sam claims this one.

Man of the match in a poor game by our standards – not easy to pick
Good performance from Danny / Good debut in the goal from Jack Cairns
But Jack Fannan edges it this week.

Credit to Brompton who made it hard for us today and played some decent football at times.
